  1. they said something about inhaling the fumes caused health problems but you can easily search for the articles on yahoo that explains it.
  2. Id say heavy buttered popcorn with like extra butter (ie: movie theatre popcorn) is unhealthy just because of all of the fat in it. also notice when the bag gets done if you eat the popcorn at the bottom of the bag there is all kinds of salt and butter cakd on the last 10 or so pieces of popcorn. Ewe...
  3. so they say. its caused by inhaling too much dichloro (or something like that). but the guy that they found to have problems made a few bags every day for like 30 years.
  4. High salt/sodium in popcorn can lead to heart problems eventually....(that's if you eat a lot of that stuff though....1 bag of it split every once in a while isn't bad.....just as long as you don't over endulge on it).
  5. I read an article today (weird huh) about the effects of the butter in the microwave popcorn... that it can cause something called "popcorn lung" from breathing it in... I know this sounds funny, but we were commenting on it at work... read this... http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/food/2007-09-05-popcorn-lung_N.htm?csp=34 http://www.webmd.com/news/20070426/7-new-cases-of-popcorn-workers-lung
  6. My daughter came home from school today and mentioned that. Someone who was making popcorn developed some kind of lung ailment. Here's the story in the news: ConAgra to drop popcorn chemical linked to lung ailment OMAHA (AP) — The nation's largest microwave popcorn maker, ConAgra Foods, says it will change the recipe for its Orville Redenbacher and Act II brands over the next year to remove a flavoring chemical linked to a lung ailment in popcorn plant workers. The decision comes a day after a doctor at a leading lung research hospital said in a warning letter to federal regulators that consumers, not just factory workers, may be in danger from fumes from buttery flavoring in microwave popcorn. FROM OUR ARCHIVES: USA TODAY's special report on popcorn workers' health from June 20, 2002 The Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association said the FDA has approved the use of diacetyl as a flavor ingredient, and diacetyl occurs naturally in foods such as butter, cheese and fruits. ConAgra spokeswoman Stephanie Childs said the company decided to remove the butter flavoring diacetyl from its popcorn because of the risk the chemical presents to workers who handle large quantities. 7. No, it doesn't hurt the consumer but there was problems with the production workers. A lawsuit that was settled 6 months ago showed that the butter flavor when inhaled caused a rare from of lung damage. They have since changed the powder and its suppose to be safe for the workers.
