  1. not that i can think of at the moment. lookup microwaves on wikpiedia.org or howstuffworks.com... microwave is electromagnetic radiation just like light, radio waves etc where i'm staying, here in india, lots of people have spread false rumors like it poisons, or "radiates" and stuff. microwave's frequency range lies below infra-red, and above radio waves. what makes them so popular, is the they have an uncanny ability to make molecules in their path vibrate. the vibrations leads to heating from the inside. that's how semi-solid food and liquid is heated in a microwave oven. there are no other effects on the food, as there were no chemicals/other agents acting on the food in the first place. the reason why we don't put metal things inside the microwave, is because metal molecules are so close together, that when they vibrate, their electrons get knocked off or something, and lots of sparks are produced. this can damage the oven. that's all. it's not like there's any poisoning effect or anything. environment damage: none if you keep the oven's door CLOSED while running it! heh heh.. trees, leave, soil will react to microwaves in the same way food does.. they'll heat up. but you need a very concentrated beam reflecting in and out of the object several times, which is why we use OVENS to microwave, rather than do it in the open! microwaves in fact may be good in a way.. they're a lot more energy-efficient, as all input power gets used to heat the FOOD and not the utensils, and there's not wastage of energy like in open-stove or convection cooking. i hope this dispels your doubts about microwaves!
