What is the purpose of having a large dish behind microwave receivers?

1. It reflects all of the microwave radiation into the receiver which is the thing in the middle of the dish. This is a cheap yet effective method of increasing the amount of signals that reach the receiver and this allows the dish to be used with weaker signals.
