Can I Put My Microwave In A cabinet?

Above my stove is a vent, then on top of that is the cabinets. There is a large cabinet that is more than large enough for my microwave. I was planning on routing the cord through the cabinets, but can I place the microwave in the cabinet?

1. Sure just leave enough room for ventilation.
2. You mean, just set the microwave in the cabinet? Must be a pretty big cabinet and door that you can put a m/w into. Generally you don't want to run any kind of appliance in a closed space without plenty of ventilation to carry away heat from the motors. The best solution is to mount the m/w under the cabinet in place of the vent. If you don't have enough clearance above the stove, remove the cabinets.
3. Problem with it way up there is access. I ended up making a "hoosiers cabinet" in my kitchen that houses all my plug in appliances the Microwave I never pull out. So yes vent it and it's fine in there. Just hope your tall. You also want easy access to the plug in case of an emergency. Another thing to consider, if something should spill in there or drop and land on the stove.

6. Geez all that bad advice and the guy at the end who said they make micros just for this purpose is the only correct one, just incomplete. A counter top micro will not work. Your upper cabinets are 12" deep and the interior is only about 11" deep. The micro would stick way out not to mention it would be too high to reach without a chair to stand on. All major cabinet manufacturers make a special cabinet to hold a counter top micro into but that will not help you with your situation. I just highly advise you to buy an over the range micro which is made to mount to the wall as well as to the bottom of that cabinet above the range. Used ones are always found on Craigslist for little money. You will have to run an outlet box for this. Power should already be in the wall there since there was a hood vent there. By code an over the range micro should be from 17" to 24" over the range top.
