Microwave Problems

I have just bought a convectional microwave oven but not enough space at the top?

I have placed this in an open cabinet space in my kitchen (where i had my previous convectional microwave). According to the installation instructions I should have 13 cm free space at the top of the microwave, but I only have 4cms. Will this do any harm and, if so, what could happen? (I never had any problems with my previous one, which was the same size but a different make). I would appreciate your advice. The "cabinet" it is in has a cupboard above it.

  1. can you drill above or provide a vent ? so the heat can escape ?
  2. convectional, do you mean a combination microwave and convection oven? If it says you need 13 cm, you should provide that space, or the unit may overheat. Or you may run the risk of the wood charring or burning. If it only needed 4 cm, they would have said so. Convection ovens put out a lot of heat. .
