Microwave Problems

I have a 2002 whirlpool microwave and it only runs if I push up on the door. What do I need to do to fix it?

It's a hood combination, the model # MH6150XMQO.

1. You need to get a new microwave. There could be leakage if the door doesn't seal correctly.
2. There is a switch in the wall near the door that tells the computer that the door is closed so it will operate. If the micro-switch becomes out of alignment, the problem that you discribe is the result. On most of the doors, they have a hook or latch. Try putting some cloth adhesive (medical bandage) tape on the edge torwards the microwave side. Make sure just to cut enough to wrap the edge only. This will put more pressure on the micro-switch and engage the unit. Oh, I forgot, when the door is pulled up, does it actually move much? Let me know, email me. Jim
3. Buy a new one. The new ones are so nice. Be sure to get a round table (moves by itself). You can pick them up at Wal-Mart for around $70 now. Even GE's.
4. It is possible that the latch assembly is worn out. The problem is that if its the door itself then the micro could be leaking radiation. The best thing is to have it looked at by a proffesional and have it tested.
