Microwave Problems

Light Bulb And Filter In Microwave?

I have a built in Whirlpool microwave. The light built does not work anymore after just 1 1/2 years. There is no information in the user manual. I asked Whirlpool Customer Service, they want to rip me off with an expensive repair service for just a light bulb. It seems that it is impossible to remove the light bulb. I cannot unscrew it. It looks like I have to disassemble the unit. Does anybody know how to change this light bulb? There is also a dirty filter, which cannot be removed. How can I clean it? I cannot hire a handyman. That would cost as much as a shopping cart with food for my family.

  1. I think the bulb is a push and turn type, and the filter should remove by pushing in one direction, and dropping it out the bottom.
  2. Your lens for the bulb might just slip out, try pushing it up and out of the way. The bulb you should be able to buy at wal-marts or any where the sell light bulbs. It will say microwave bulb, as far as the filter should just be a couple clips, I'm not a Kenmore repair man, mine is a sharp but it can't be too much different. good luck
  3. i wouldnt worry about the lightbulb alot call coustomer service and ask what lightbulb it is and if they dont tell you then go to a place that deals with the repair and selling of them ask them if they can tell you how to replace it the filter: look in your manual to see if they have part numbers and write it down and take it to lowes or home depot some place that sells the whirlpool microwave ovens if they sell it they have parts for it most likely talk to someone about the problems i know that theres more than one way of repairing your oven there always is for appliances
  4. repair instead of replace I read this today in Woman's World ww.repairclinic.com good luck
  5. The microwave will have to be pulled down and the cabinet removed to replace the bulb. If it is vented to the outside, the vent will have to be disconnected before removal. Do not use just any bulb. Make sure it is for that application. The filter frame has a spring on one side. once you push it to one side it should drop down and out.
  6. find the owners manual and see if it can give you the information you need
  7. Your bulb may not be able to be "unscrewed" but you might need to push inward and twist to the left. It might be a bayonet type bulb. It's important to know what sort of bulb your microwave uses since not all microwaves are the same. It's equally important to know what that bulb says on it (ie voltage AND wattage).
