Microwave Problems

What could be the problem with my microwave?

Every time I want to warm something up and press start, the light inside flickers and I know the microwave plate does not move. The company of this microwave is General Electronic. It's been 1 year and 2 months since i bought it, so the warranty is over. So, how can I fix it? is it worth getting fixed, or should i buy a new one? where can i bring it to fix it?

  1. if your microwave is not working properly because the deffect is independant of your normal use, and it is covered by your warranty, NO problem, the repair will be covered or the micro might be replace free of charge... if only this is a manufacturer defect... in contrario, if your micro wave does not work properly because you have made it heating too long,or put metal dish inside or left some food wiht metal ring around (like ground beef roll with metal lock invisible) that damage your micro.... then... yes you will have to buy a new one..(fixing cost 180 dollars) that happend to me and more than one time... different time and place... but now for less than 90 bucks you have a good micro with 1000 watts, big capacity to put on your counter...(wall mart)
  2. Microwave ovens are so cheap these days, at least in comparison to having it repaired, I'd suggest you just dispose of it and buy a new unit. Check Walmart or Target for a good buy. It seems like you have a wire shorting out, and taking these things apart, is a nightmare, so just bite the bullet and buy new. As the warranty has elapsed, you may as well.
  3. If this is a countertop microwave you can get a new one for around $50 and it will be a decent one. It will most likely cost you more than that to get this one repaired. There are specialized microwave repair shops that you could take it to, but they might have a minimum charge to just diagnose the problem. It is worth at least talking to them to find out their minimum charge.
