can you put a microwave next to a large magnet strip?
mom wants to move the microwave but is worried that where she wants it could brake it, because there is a magnetic strip nailed to wall right behind where it would be placed. Is it ok to put it there or no?

- No problem. The microwave is designed not to leak at detectable levels. When you operate at 2000W the leak shoud not exceed 0.002W by and large and only inconsiderable fraction of this amount meets to metals whether they are magnetic or not. See topics with microwave oven in http://www.who.int/peh-emf/about/WhatisEMF/en/index3.html
- Not a problem. The microwave energy is made inside a vacuum tube called a Magnatron, (Maggie for short). As the name implies, a magnatron uses a very powerful magnet to do it's work, but it's well shielded by the cabinet. But there is very little that you can put near a microwave to do damage, as long as the cavity and the door, (including the window), are intact... Just don't dunk it in water, and don['t put metal inside the cavity or you can cause sparks and burn out the magnatron!. :-)
- The magnetic strip will modify the the microwaves operation by about one part per million. The magnet strip would need to be almost a million times stronger to damage the microwave, so no problem. Neil
